Hotels and Accommodation

Hotel Rural Benarraba

OVERVIEW

We stumbled upon this magnificantly located hotel one day while attempting to link up a trek in the complicated smuggler routes of the Sierra De Bermeja. Expecting to find some typically old Pension accomodation in this wonderfully peaceful village, we instead came across Javier's quietly remote hotel.

Mistaking Javier for a famous Flamenco Guitarist (will I ever learn the truth!?), he spared no time extending his warm hospitality by touring us around the facility (which included exceptionally well maintained rooms with full facilities, a large pool, lounge area, comfortable restaurant facilities and more), and sharing a few local tales of legend and myth! Javier is a bank of information and his love for hosting people is a reflection of his many years of living in this close-knit village.

It was the remoteness and sheer beauty of the hills and forests around us that captured our interest in Benarraba. The village itself is virtually untouched by tourism, let alone foreigners in general. From the hotel, a 3 minute walk will take you into a mini-labrynth of white washed lanes of rustic houses and ancient buildings of mysterious origins. The village name itself, Benarraba (Banu Rabbah), is clearly Moorish (Arabic), in origin and is typically expressed in the local architecture and custom. Like most of the villages we visit, There is a strong blend of Moroccan and Andalucian culture to be appreciated and enjoyed.
